The Silly Season is over as the transfer window closed when Monday turned Tuesday. The Premier League clubs spend a total of £657m during the summer; Great Dane Football Blog takes a look on thebiggest signings.

The fans had put pressure on Arsene Wenger demanding him to bring in a starplayer, and on the last day of the window, so hi did. After Real Madrid's historic Gareth Bale transfer, there was no room for German international Mesut Özil. Arsene Wenger did what he promised and bought the German for an estimated £44m - the most expensive Arsenal transfer ever. Özil won't be able to bring Arsenal to the top all by himself, buthe is a very promising signing for the Gunners and might give space for Walcott to play as a striker.

Another place in London, Chelsea looked to Russian Anzhi and bought Brazilian star Willian - after he had passed the medical tests in Tottenham Hotspur! The Veterans had to give £33.4m for the winger who have joined Chelsea along with his former teammate Samuel Eto'o. The signing of William led to Victor Moses going on loan in Liverpool for the rest of the season. However, Moses probably won't be missed as Chelsea now have a great winger with a taste for goals. Throughout his career, the Brazilian has scored 40 goals and made 71 assists.

One of this transfer windows big talking points, were the transfer of Gareth Bale. For a longtime Spurs fans held their breath hoping to keep on to their Welsh star, however, Real Madrid offered £80m and gone was Bale. Tottenham has spent some of the money on the young Argentinian talent Érik Lamela from AS Roma. The 21-year-old winger, who costet Spurs £26.3m, can not take over where Gareth Bale left, but he is a talented player and can become one of the future stars in the Premier League. Furthermore, Spurs brought in, with Danish eyes, an interesting player as Christian Eriksen was bought from Ajax Amsterdam for £11.8m. The Danish playmaker had been rumoured to the Premier League for some time, and Tottenham seems to be a great club for the Dane to develop.

Meanwhile, in Manchester United David Moyes had spent most of the summer trying to persuade Cesc Fabregas to join his club. However, when Barcelona declined all offers on the midfielder United turned their attention to Moyes former club Everton and Marouane Fellaini. After days of rumours, United finally landed the Belgian in the dying hours of the window in a £28m deal. Manchester United had been looking to strengthen their midfield, and with Fellaini they get a man who can participate both in the defensive and attacking play. The big question is if he can make it in a big club as Manchester United.

Liverpool have also been active on the market and bought Mamadou Sakho from Paris Saint Germain for £18.4m. The 23-year-old French defender will fight with Touré for the position next to Agger, but eitherway he will be an enforcement of the Liverpool defends. Meanwhile, players have also left Liverpool and one of them was Andy Carroll who impressed West Ham on his loan spell last season and joined them in a £15.4m deal. In West Ham Carroll will probably be the biggest name, and the star player for the next couple of years.

In Wales, Swansea has found a good companion to Michu in their £12.3m striker Wilfried Bony bought in Vitesse. His speed and Michu's eye for the right pass can turn out to be a deadly attack. Meanwhile, Cardiff enforced their midfield with Sevilla's Gary Medel who will bring some routine into the newly promoted Premier League team.

The last big signing that I have chosen for this article is Pablo Osvaldo's transfer from Roma to Southampton. The Argentinian striker caused problems in Roma, and have wished to leave the club for a long time. The next destination became Southampton on a £13.2m deal, where he will become one of the main strikers in the club.
