These two sides both claim to be 'The Greatest of English Football Club' - The Match of the Week will show which club is the greatest.

Manchester United v Liverpool FC

Premier League Round 16
Old Trafford
14-12-2014 @ 12.30 GMT

How are the two sides form?

Manchester United haven't looked back since they lost the Manchester Derby early in November. The last four matches in the Premier League have added 12 points to the Red Devils account and brought them back in the position for European football next season. The can get into the fun zone with a win against Southampton tonight.

Liverpool are four points behind United and have the possibility of closing the gap with a win on Saturday. The Reds have five points for their last three matches after they drew against Sunderland last week.

Manchester United have won five of the last ten matches against Liverpool.

What are the probable line-ups?

Not less than six Manchester United players are injured or doubtful for the match against Liverpool, including Wayne Rooney, Luke Shaw and Angel Di Maria. Daniel Sturridge is back on the training ground after his injury, but is unlikely to play against United why he is sidelined along with Mario Balotelli and five other players.

De Gea

Valencia - Smalling - Rojo - Young

Carrick - Fellaini

Herrera - Mata - Januzaj

van Persie

Lallana - Lambert - Sterling

Henderson - Lucas - Allen

Manquillo - Skrtel - Touré - Johnson

Worth keeping an eye on

Manchester United - Robin van Persie: The Dutch goal getter has had a disappointing start of the season, but now it seems he is back in his best form. If he plays his best, he will be a challenge for  the Liverpool defends.

Liverpool - Adam Lallana: Lallana left his impressing form in Southampton, but the expectations are still high to the England international. Lallana will have to improve and against Manchester United he should be able to challenge the defend.

What to expect from this match?

Brendan Rodgers is under pressure, and a win against United will give him some time to reestablish his side and bring them back around the top positions. However, van Gaal has got the best out of his injury struck squad and United are beginning to find the level we know they have. United are the favorites against a struggling Liverpool side.

What are the odds?

Manchester United: 19/20 (Betfred)

Draw: 45/17 (888sport)

Liverpool: 16/5 (BetVictor)

Mancini's troops hang on in the top of the league while van Gaal finally have made an impact on United. Sunday, the two managers, meet in the Battle of Manchester!

Manchester City v Manchester United
Premier League
Round 10
Etihad Stadium
02-11-2014 @ 13.30 BWT

How are the two sides current form?

West Ham have played better than we have seen in many years, and Saturday Manchester City felt the East Londoners success. At Upton Park the Sky Blues were beaten 2-1 by the Hammers but kept their third in the league table, only one point ahead of West Ham.

Yesterday, the rivals from Old Trafford were visited by another London side as Chelsea played a draw against United. Chelsea were in front, but Robin van Persie won a point to Manchester with a goal in overtime, meaning United are currently eight in the league.

What are the probable line-ups?

Samir Nasri are currently the only player on City's injury list while it looks worse with Manchester United. Here, Jonny Evans, Jesse Lingaard, Patrick McNair and Valencia are injured while Wayne Rooney is serving a ban.

Hart

Zabaleta - Mangala - Kompany - Kolarov

Fernando - Touré

Navas - Silva - Milner

Aguero
____________________________________________

van Persie - Falcao

Mata

Herrera - Di María

Blind

Shaw - Rojo - Jones - Rafael

De Gea

Worth keeping an eye on

Yaya Touré - Manchester City: The Ivorian midfielder has not impressed as much as he did last season, but is still key player for Manchester City. If he plays his best, he can be a decisive player for City in this match, but on his worst days you will not even notice him on the pitch. That said, he has the ability of being anonymous in 80 minutes and then suddenly pop up and score the match winning goal.

Daley Blind - Manchester United: Danny Blind will be crucial for the Manchester United defend in this match. The Dutch has to take control of the midfield and play hard against Navas, Milner and Silva and keep them from supplying Aguero the ball.

What to expect from this match?

City have won six of the last ten matches and have the advantage against United. None of the last ten meetings have ended with a draw why we can expect to see a winner by the end of the match, and City are the favorites. However, they displayed their weaknesses against West Ham, and it is up to van Gaal to take advantage of these. Against Chelsea, Manchester United showed that they don't just give up, and their fighter spirit is important against City on Sunday. Comparing the tow sides City looks the strongest, and Aguero will be a mouthful for the United defends. We can expect at close match between the two sides with Manchester City as the late winners.

What are the odds?

Manchester City: 17/20 (Betway)

Draw: 3 (William Hill)

Manchester United: 38/11 (BETBRIGHT)

He has been on his way out, and the fans have a love/hate relationship to him; he is the new captain of Manchester United.

Both Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, two former captains of the Red Devils, have left Manchester this summer leaving Louis van Gaal with a choice to make.

In 2010, he was ready to leave Manchester United and join the rivals from City according to British media. Wayne Rooney stayed in United, but in 2012, Sir Alex Ferguson revealed that once again Rooney wanted to leave, but again the striker stayed. Yesterday he was announced to be the new United captain.

"For me it's always very important the choice of captain. Wayne has shown a great attitude towards everything he does. I have been very impressed by his professionalism and his attitude to training and to my philosophy. He is a great inspiration to the younger members of the team, and I believe he will put his heart and soul into his captaincy role," van Gaal said to Manutd.com.

However, van Gaals choice is not greeted by all United fans. On the Manchester United community forum 'Talking Reds' a user named Captain Marvel No. 7 writes:
"Won't ever be a club legend in my eyes. He's been a great player for United, carried us at times but if I'm brutally honest if he could have got out of United he would have done.
Tried worming his way to City, didn't happen. Then he flirted with Chelsea & Mourinho last summer despite the fact he never asked to leave (Mourinho got encouragement from somewhere) and now he has been rewarded with the captaincy.
If Wayne gets his head down and plays to his potential then, it will benefits United but I'm far from ecstatic about the appointment. The last few years have left a sour taste and for that reason he will never be a legend IMO."

Other members of the community forum speculate in Rooney being the only candidate for the captaincy. And maybe he is. Looking at the current squad, he is the player with most years in the club and in a time where van Gaal is determined to create a new squad Rooney might be one of the most important players.

Even though he Rooney have been on his way out of the club, twice the last couple of years, the captaincy signals that he will finish his career with the Red Devils as other United legends have done. The question is then if the fans can live with him as their new captain?

Thomas Vermaelen is set to leave Arsenal and leave Manchester United hanging.

UK media today reports that Arsene Wenger has accepted a £15m bid for Thomas Vermaelen. An offer the French can't refuse.

The Belgian defender has only one year left of his contract and with only 14 appearances in the Premier League last season, he doesn't seem to have a future for the Gunners with Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny performing solid in the defense.

Manchester United have been linked with the Belgian for some time, but Vermaelen seems lost for the Red Devils as Barcelona snatch him in front of Vermaelen.

The Catalonians have been looking to strengthen their central defends this summer, and several players have been trough the transfer rumour mill including Liverpool's Daniel Agger. While Wenger should be happy with the £15m deal, this is bad news for Agger as his exit from Liverpool is on hold; at least for a while.

According to the Mirror, Arsenal are interested in signing the Dane as a back up for Mertesacker and Koscielny, but it is very unlikely Wenger will make an offer for the 29-year-old defender. However, the manager has brought in experienced defenders from rival clubs in the past, and Agger can hope that Arsenal will offer him the exit from Liverpool he so badly wants.

Other defenders Wenger has brought in from rival clubs:

William Gallas, Sol Campbell, Mikael Silvestre

It's Friday and time to take a look back at the week that past.

Friday 25th April - Hillsborough Wikipedia posts

It was revealed Friday that a number of changes made to the Wikipedia site about Hillsborough were posted from computers on Whitehall's intranet. One of the changes was the Liverpool anthem You'll Never Walk Alone rewritten to You'll Never Walk Again, as well as offensive comments were posted about the people dying in the tragedy. The Cabinet Office has now launched an investigation to find the persons behind the posts.

Saturday 26th April - Giggs first match as manager

He is already a Manchester United legend, and on Saturday he added to his history at the club as he was in charge of his first match as a manager. After a miserable season, David Moyes was sacked last week and Ryan Giggs took over as interim manager and started with great success as Norwich was sent home from Old Trafford with a 0-4 loss in the baggage. There was a glimpse of the old Manchester United in Saturdays match, and the fans will certainly hope that this can keep on in the remaining matches of the season.

Sunday 27th April - Did Gerrard just cost Liverpool the trophy?

It was one of the first 'finals' of the season for Liverpool; a win would add distance to Chelsea and Manchester City and almost secure the trophy. However, Mourinho's reserves surprised against Liverpool and grabbed a 2-0 victory at Anfield Road. The first goal came after a mistake from Steven Gerrard, and if that mistake means that Liverpool will not grab the gold this season, it will haunt him the rest of his life. The second goal came after another Liverpool mistake lead to Willian scoring to 2-0.

Wednesday 30th April - Chelsea's Champions League dream ended

They might have taken a big step in the Premier League, but on Wednesday the luck was gone for Mourinho. In a match where both teams looked afraid to take the initiative, Fernando Torres punished his former club scoring to 1-0. However, it should be the only goal the Chelsea fans could celebrate during the match. Shortly before the break Adrian Lopez equalised to 1-1 which also was the result after 45 minutes. After an hour, Samuel Eto'o committed a penalty on Diego Costa, who executed to 1-2 to Atletico. 10 minutes later Arda Turan closed the match with his scoring to 1-3. Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are now meeting each other in the Champions League final.

Wednesday 30th April - Corinthians tribute to Senna

Yesterday it was 20 years since Formula One driver Ayrton Senna died after a chras at Imola. The racing-driver was a fan of Corinthians, his home-town club in São Paulo, and on Wednesday they paid an unusual tribute to the fan. The entire side was wearing replicas of Senna's distinctive yellow and green racing helmet as they lined up before the game against Nacional.

It  is Friday and nearly weekend, and that means it is time to look back on this week's football events and highlights.

Tuesday April 8th - Demba Ba sends Chelsea on in the Champions League

They were behind 1-3 before the match, and most experts had already put Chelsea in the grave. However, Chelsea wanted it different and especially Demba Ba tried to convince Mourinho that he is still worth keeping in the squad. However, it was Schürrle who scored the first goal after an assist from David Luiz, and PSG didn't seem to be able to answer back. If it was Zlatan Ibrahimovic missing due to an injury, or the players just thought they could walk the victory home is hard to say. However, with just three minutes to go Ba paid back Mourinho's trust sending Chelsea on to the semifinals.

Wednesday April 9th - Hull name change

He wants it so badly, Assem Allam, to change Hull City to Hull Tigers, despite strong opposition from fans. However, the FA has now - for the second time - decided to decline his proposal meaning that Allam can not protest against the decision. The Egyptian has earlier this year threatened to leave the club if he failed to be granted permission for his name switch. Will the fans finally get rid of their number one target?

Wednesday April 9th - Manchester United are out

After 1-1 at Old Trafford, Manchester United fans were hoping their team could surprise once again at Allianz Arena and send Bayern Munich out in the cold. After a rather boring first half where none of the teams looked as they were there to win - Munich could settle with 0-0 result - things started taking speed in the second half. First Patrice Evra scored a goal of a lifetime giving the fans hopes and believe in a semifinal, but less than two minutes after Mandzukic killed the hope. Manchester kept trying and that opened for first Müller and then Robben to finish off Manchester United's Champions League adventure.

Wednesday April 9th - Barca are also out!

Atletico Madrid's win against Barcelona ended the Catalan's unprecedented run of reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League for six consecutive seasons. However, the Barcelona players were outplayed by an Atletico side in great form who deserved the win more than the Catalans did. A player as Lionel Messi was very disappointing and  only ran about 6km - the same as José Manuel Pinto in the goal. Koke gave Atletico the lead after just five minutes, and the Madrilenes kept the lead till the end of the match. Could Atletico win the Champions League this season?

Friday April 11th - Cardiff accuse Crystal Palace of spying

Controversial Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan have written to the Premier League accusing former Head of Recruitment Iain Moody, who is not Sporting Director at Palace of spying. According to Tan, Moody should have used contacts at the club to ascertain the starting line-up before the sides met on Saturday. After the 0-3 loss to the Eagles, Tan wrote to Premier League chief Richard Scudamore demanding an investigation, but the Premier League have told Cardiff to make a formal complaint if they wish to take things further.

Bayern Munich have already won the German 1. Bundesliga, but lost against Augsburg in the weekend; the first defeat of the season. Manchester United, on the other hand, took an impressive 4-0 win against Newcastle on Saturday and are currently sixth in the Premier League.

What are the probable lineups?

Munich's Bastian Schweinsteiger and Javi Martínez are both out with a ban while not less than seven players are out with injuries. United are without Robin van Persie while Wayne Rooney, Ashley Young and Ryan Giggs are doubtful.

What to expect from this match?

Manchester United visits Allianz Arena with the hope of another Champions League miracle as the one we saw in 1999 in the final - against Bayern Munich. However, Bayern have drawn the first leg of a European knockout tie 1-1 away from home 11 times in the past, and have progressed to the next round in all 11 of those ties. In the last 10 meetings (inclusive friendlies) between the two sides, Manchester United have only won on one occasion. The Red Devils is going into a hard match, and Bayern Munich are the favorites on Wednesday.

What are the odds?
The bookmakers doesn't have much faith in Manchester United with a odds as high as 14 from BETVICTOR. A draw gives the odds 57/10 with youwin while Betway gives 1/4 for a Bayern Munich victory.

It's Friday and time for our weekly look back at what have happened the last seven days.

Friday 21st March - Champions League draw

We can look forward to some killer games in this years Champions League Quarter-finals. Manchester United will get their hands full against Bayern Munich while Chelsea will meet PSG in a battle between two giants. Furthermore, Dortmund, once again, meets Real Madrid in a replay of last season. In the last match we can look forward to a Spanish battle between Atletico Madrid and Barcelona. The Champions League is treating us well this year!

Tuesday 25th March - The Manchester Derby

Manchester City took the third win of three at Old Trafford with a 3-0 win in the Derby. Edin Dzeko brought his total goals for City to 40 when he scored in the first minute and again in the 56th before Touré finished the humiliation with a goal in the last minute. The Manchester City win was not even close to the result from the last match at Etihad, but the Sky Blues dominated the Red Devils throughout the match.

Wednesday 26th March - #Moyesout

The morning after Manchester United's derby defeat saw #Moyesout trending on Twitter for the second time. The manager came under fire already during the match where stewards were sent to guard the famous banner supporting David Moyes at Old Trafford. However, Wednesday morning hundreds of tweets from furios fans and comical memes were tweeted under the hashtag #moyesout. Whether Manchester United will listen to their fans only time can show.

Wednesday 26th March - Kasper Schmeichel scores! or did he?

Did Kasper Schmeichel scorer his first goal for Leicester or was it Chris Wood? We will let you decide:

Thursday 27th March - UEFA launches new European league

The Nations League is as the name implies a new international tournament with the European national teams playing against each other instead of the friendlies. The concept of the tournament hasn't been confirmed yet, but the leagues (four levels) will start in autumn 2018, and four Euro places will be in play. The 54 member associations will be divided into four groups after their world ranking, and the nations will play either four or six matches during autumn 2018. During 2019, the nations will play for promotion or relegation depending on their position in the league. The Nations League is thought to run along with the Euro- and World Cup-qualifications.

How are the two sides form?

Manchester have had troubles this season, but both the players and the manager hoped that their 3-0 win against Olympiakos last Wednesday was the turning point for the Red Devils. Saturday they won 2-0 against West Ham, and a win against Manchester City tomorrow will create hope for some European football next season.

Manchester City are out of the Champions League and can now fully focus on the league and the Capital One cup. City are unbeaten in their last four Premier League matches and have been one of the strongest sides this season.

Manchester City have won the last two meetings between the two sides and have five wins against Uniteds four in the last ten meetings.

What are the probable lineups?

Robin van Persie is currently the only Manchester United7 player confirmed to be out along with Nemanja Vidic serving a ban. However, Jonny Evans, Rio Ferdinand, Chris Smalling and Valencia are all rated doubtful. Manchester City are without Sergio Aguero, Matija Nastasic and Micah Richards while Edin Dzeko is rated doubtful.

What to expect from this match?

Given that the Manchester Derby have only ended in one draw of the last ten played, there will be found a winner on Tuesday evening. Manchester City have the upper hand against Manchester United and I expect them to be the dominating side in this match. That said, United owns the fans a Derby win at Old Trafford and will fight hard to get it. It is impossible to say if their form have changed with the win over Olympiakos, but a win against City will show if they are back on track. City are missing Aguero up front, but both Dzeko and Negredo have something to prove and I can see Dzeko put one into the back of the net. City are most likely to pull out with a win.

What are the odds?

BET365 gives a 5/6 odds on a Manchester City win while BetFred gives 5/2 on a Manchester United win. A draw gives back 13/5 on SkyBet. Wayne Rooney has scored five goals in his last five games in all competitions against Manchester City and gives 13/2 at PaddyPower if he scores the first goal of the match.

It's Friday, and that means it is time to look back on five highlights from the week! This week is all about the Champions League, a man who seems to be unable to keep his pants on and a french legend.

Sunday March 7 - Arsenal fan calls for Liverpool's Agger to be banned

Sam Navret, the same Arsenal fan that started the petition for Luis Suarez to be handed over to Arsenal, Sunday launched a new petition to make the FA ban Daniel Agger for his tackling on Jack Wilshere. During England's friendly against, Denmark Agger broke the leg of Wilshere sending him on the sidelined for the title race. According to Sam Navret 'It has been well-known that Liverpool FC have been on a campaign to destroy Arsenal and we, the fans of Arsenal, believe that Daniel Agger was instructed by Liverpool's owner John Henry to target Jack Wilshere during the match.' What's next Sam?

Wednesday March 12 - Tim Sherwood warns Spurs' players

Perform or leave, that seems to the message from Tim Sherwood after the embarrassing loss to Chelsea in the weekend. Wednesday the manager told the press that "It's come to a stage where we have to start looking at pre-season. I'm the one planning it at the moment and looking at different personnel. The boys here have an opportunity to prove that they want to stay. If not, they'll be moved on and we'll look for replacements. I know the DNA of the guys and I know the ones I can trust and those I can't." Yesterday, Tottenham lost 3-1 to Benfica, so maybe a few of the players are already on their way out the door.

Wednesday March 12 - Two out, two to go?

First Arsenal played an entire match in Munich being one step behind Bayern through 90 minutes. Then Manchester City's billionaire boys were learned a lesson by Barcelona... In both matches, the referees were criticised. Fact is that yet another year English football seems to be run over by German and Spanish teams. That said, Manchester United and Chelsea can still bring some pride to England, but with United being behind with two against Olympiacos the faith lies with Chelsea. Next week will show if England has lost their place in European top football.

Thursday March 13 - Oops, I did it again...

Bendtner, Bendtner, Bendtner... just as we thought he was back and had left all the scandals behind him, Bendtner decides to take off his pants and rub his crotch on a taxi. Furthermore, the Danish striker told the taxi driver that he would "Fuck him" as well as kicked the radio in the cab. Wonder if Bendtner wanting to bang a taxi driver is a clear sign to his girlfriend? One thing is for sure: Bendtner's agent will have to do a hard mans work to find the striker a new club this summer.

Thursday March 13 - Everybody was Kung Fu Fighting

Back in the days Eric Cantona kicked Crystal Palace fans 'Karate-style'; now he is also assaulting pub guests. The French Manchester United legend was arrested in Primrose Hill, London, after a burst up with a pub guest - which didn't need medical treatment - and was trying to walk away from the police. However, an officer stopped the French and finally, got him placed in the back of the police car. There is currently no news about what had happened or whether the victim will press charges against Cantona.

Manchester United got three important points against Swansea last round, but this week they are facing Chelsea who are unbeaten in their last six matches. Match of the week is a clash between two English titans!

Chelsea v Manchester United
Barclays Premier League Round 22
Stamford Bridge

How are the two teams form?

Chelsea are currently second in the Premier League, with Arsenal playing against Aston Villa later this evening, only one point from Manchester City in the lead. The last six matches Chelsea have left the pitch as winners, and especially Eden Hazard have been playing well with nine goals this season.

Manchester United is still suffering from a bad start, placing them seventh in the league table after the weekends win against Swansea. The Red Devils have won five of their last six matches and are three points behind Tottenham on the sixth, before this match.

Chelsea have won three of the last ten meetings between the two sides. That's one less than Manchester United while the two teams have left the pitch sharing points three times.

What are the probable line ups?

Chelsea are still without a couple of players including Frank Lampard and Branislav Ivanovic. However, their opponent on Sunday are in even bigger problems with nine players either injured or doubtful including Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and Rio Ferdinand. Furthermore, United will have to do without Fabio who is still serving the three match ban he received against Swansea on the 5th January.

What to expect from this match?

Chelsea are in eminent form at the moment and making their way to the top. It will be up to a unstable Manchester United team to stop them, and get three vital points at the Bridge on Sunday. However, given Chelsea seems unstoppable at the moment they are the favorites and considering Manchester United's injury problems they will get in trouble holding Chelsea away from scoring. I expect Manchester to fight their best and show how brave they really are, but I can only see Chelsea take the three points.

What are the odds?

WilliamHill gives back a 5/6 bet on a home victory why Bet365 are leading the odds for a draw with 11/4. The best bet for a Manchester United victory is found at 888sport and Unibet with 15/4.

How are the two teams form?

After a winning streak of four matches in a row Manchester United lost 2-1 against Tottenham last round and against Swansea in the FA Cup. The Red Devils were beginning to find a great form and finds themselves only four points from top five. However, a win is needed against Swansea on Saturday to keep up the trail.

Swansea are thirteenth in the Premier League only four points from the relegation zone. Michael Laudrups troops have not won in their last six league matches why the FA Cup win against Manchester United yesterday was a late Christmas present for the fans.

What are the probable starting line ups?

Manchester United will have to do with out Fabio who is serving a ban while Fellaini, Nani and Van Persie, are all out with injuries. Furthermore, Ferdinand, Jones, Rafael and Rooney are rated doubtful for the match. Swansea are without Dyer, Michu, Monk and Vorm while there are doubts about Hernández and Lamah.

What to expect from this match?

Both teams are in need of three points, so one of the two sides will stand back in this match. Despite the result from last night, United should be favorites, especially given Swansea's current form. They might be struggling with injuries, but on paper the squad is still better than Swansea. That said, the Swans came back last night and will be eager to take two wins in a week at Old Trafford. I expect Manchester to be the dominant side in this match while Swansea will be living on counter-attacks.

What are the odds?

William Hill holds a 1/2 bet on a Manchester United win while a draw gives 7/2 at BetVictor. The best bet for a Swansea win is 15/2 from Coral.

  • Name: Marc Rochester Sørensen
  • Age: 21 (13.12.1992)
  • Position: Striker
  • Club: FC Vestsjælland
  • International caps:
    • Denmark U20
      • 3 matches / 0 goals
  • Value: £225.000

After three years playing with his brother Lee, Marc Rochester Sørensen took the next step with a transfer to the Danish Superliga club FC Vestsjælland. This week we keep an eye on the talented attacking player.

Getting his football education in the small club Velo, before playing in the Danish 2. Division for BK Frem Marc Rochester ended up in HB Køge and their U19 squad. However, it didn't take long before the talent was given two friendlies and was promoted to the 1. Division squad. Soon after, his younger brother Lee was also promoted to the senior squad, and together they became a vital part of the squad. Rochester have enjoyed the special bond between his brother and himself, and says it have had an impact on their time in Køge:

"We complement each other; for example we talk a lot about how we can improve and do better for the team. On the pitch,  we find eachother easier and know what each of us are going to do next because we are brothers. It was a great advantage when we played together," Rochester Sørensen says.

During his time in Køge Marc Rochester tried both being promoted for the Danish Superliga as well as relegated to the 1. Division. Furthermore, in the week of his Superliga debut against AC Horsens, in 2011, he was also selected for the Danish U20 national team winning the NI Milk Cup. Here, Rochester Sørensen was nominated as the final and the tournaments best player. Despite the success, last summer the talent decided not to extend his stay in the club which he looks back on with joy:

“It was a great experience. When I came to HB Køge, I would never have thought I would play Superliga and 1. Division so soon, but when it happened it was very teaching and developing for me both mentally and as a footballer.

“I needed some new challenges, and I thought FC Vestsjælland sounded interesting. When I talked with the director, Gert [Hansen], he told me about the visions and ambitions. Furthermore, it was a great possibility for a young player as me to play in the Superliga," the striker says.

The break with HB Køge also meant a break with his brother - at least on the pitch. However, the two players still uses each other and exchange experiences and ideas, and hopes to one day play on the same side once again:

“It would be so cool to play with Lee again and have him close to me, so it would be great if he could find his way to me again.”

The two brothers were often compared to each other, but Rochester Sørensen sees some great differences between him and his brother:

In many aspects,  we are much alike, but we are also very different. Lee is the more aggressive player and is a bit more verbal where as I am more the silent type that let’s my feet do the talking.”

The talents new club, FC Vestsjælland, was promoted to the Superliga last summer and spend a great amount of money on new players. Some of them in the high end of the pay scale. Some Danish media was speculating in whether Rochester Sørensen joined Vestsjælland because of the better pay, but the striker denies any talks of money as a motivation. Instead, he joined the club to play on a higher level with some more experienced players as Dennis Sørensen with a past in the German 1. Bundesliga:

“It’s a challenge to compete with players who have played on a higher level, but also great to play with players who knows the game and have been a part of it for many years. It is a positive challenge, but I can also use them off the pitch and use their advices," the talent says.

Vestsjælland are fighting in the lower end of the table, but Rochester Sørensen is sure that his side will stay in the best Danish league when we reach the end of May. Despite being in a rather unknown club, Rochester Sørensen dreams of one day to take the next step and go abroad. A dream will be to put on the red Manchester United shirt; a team he has supported for many years. However, at the moment he is fully focused on helping Vestsjælland for at least the next three years of his contract.

Until further, the talent is satisfied just to watch his dream team on the tele back home. However, having an Arsenal fan as a brother have led to some discussions around the coffee table:

“There have been some fight in the living room, and it have not always been pretty to watch.

“But, I can’t say much when we are at the position as we are now, but I look back on the years when we always won," the Rochester ends.

After more than 26 years with Sir Alex Ferguson as the manager, Manchester United is going through a troubled period with the new manager, David Moyes.

Every football fan knew that taking over for Sir Alex Ferguson would be the world's hardest job, and it has shown to be for David Moyes. 6 matches into his first season with the Red Devils, United is 12th in the Premier League with only 7 points; the worst start for the club in many years. Some might blame the manager, but here at Great Dane Football Blog the players seems to be the problem.

After the Ferguson era, Manchester United is going through a transition with a new manager, who at the same time needs to make his mark on the squad and bring in some new names. Let's face it, the squad have a couple of players who never reached the level hoped for with Ferguson as manager, and who are not worth their weekly pay.

Among the goalkeeper's, Anders Lindegaard never managed to grab the chance when he got it, and will be better of finding somewhere else to guard the goal. The same matters for Ben Amos who is not even close to getting in action. As long as De Gea keeps performing more or less stable none of the two reserves will get a chance, and it might be better for the club if they find a goalkeeper with a higher level than Lindegaard and Amos. However, finding a new goalkeeper should not be the main target for the next transfer window.

Looking towards your old manager?
Manchester United have one of the most routine defenses with Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra, but all three of them have reached an age where their career is lacking towards an end. That said, the squad has some very talented and young players in Rafael, Fabio, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones. However, players with more Premier League experience are needed for the future why a name as Leighton Baines will be a pleasant add to the squad.

The midfield is probably the greatest problem for United. Paul Scholes retired for his second time this summer, and the midfield needs a man like him. Darren Fletcher is currently out with a long term illness and Ryan Giggs is probably not fit enough for a whole season. Meanwhile, United has players as Anderson and Ashley Young who are simply not worth the money they are paid. Moyes have brought in Fellaini from Everton in a try to close the gap on the midfield, but first of all United needs to get rid of the marginal players and spend the money more wisely on class players and real talent. Ross Barkley could be a future star on the Manchester team.

In front, Manchester United has a very good attack with van Persie and Rooney as the stars. Danny Welbeck will never reach the same level as the two first, but he is a well qualified reserves. However, it would not harm United to bring in a real goal maker to help van Persie. Here, a man as Christian Benteke would be an obvious transfer target.

Jonjo Shelvey became both the hero and the villain in yesterday's match against Liverpool. Has Laudrup ever shown the clip of his former national teammate Jesper Olsen?

Ask a Dane about the World Cup match against Spain in 1986 and most of them will mention Jesper Olsen. The former Manchester United winger helped Spain on their way to a 5-1 victory, serving the ball for the Spanish forward. Take a look 9 seconds into the clip below.

It must have been a deja vu for Laudrup when he saw Jonjo Shelvey serve the ball for two Liverpool goal's yesterday, and perhaps he should show his midfielder the clip from before. Take a look below to see how Shelvey helped his former club to a draw in Wales.

Despite a good career, Jesper Olsen has always been best known for his dreadful pass to a Spanish striker; let's hope that Shelvey will be known for something else than these two passes.

Swansea City is taking on Manchester United in the first match of the upcoming Premier League season. Not less than 8 players have joined Swansea while David Moyes has taken over in Manchester after Sir Alex Fergusons retirement. Match of the week is between Swansea City and Manchester United.

English Premier League - Round 1
Libery Stadium, Swansea
17 - 08 - 2013 @ 17.30 UK

How are the two teams form?

Swansea City have done well in their pre-season matches winning all 7. Furthermore, the Welsh went through to the next round of the Europa League Qualifications with an 4-0 win over two matches against Malmö FF.

Meanwhile, Manchester United has lost 2 of their 6 pre-season matches and against some rather poor teams. However, Manchester United is known to make some rather weak performances in their pre-season matches.

Swansea still have not won a match against Manchester United, as last season's meetings ended with a draw and three losses.

What will the probable starting XI look?

According to the latest reports Swansea have all players ready for the first match of the season, while Rooney and Powell are doubtful for Manchester United.

Vorm

Rangel - Williams - Chico - Davies

Routledge - Britton - Shelvey - Hernandez

Michu

Bony
____________________________________________

van Persie

Kagawa

Nani - Carrick - Cleverley - Zaha

Evra - Ferdinand - Vidic - Jones

De Gea

What to expect from this match?

Swansea have brought in some exciting reinforcements as Wilfried Bony and Jonjo Shelvey, and they will be important if Swansea is to get the same success as last season. However, against a Manchester United team that has not changed much since last season, I only see United as winners of this match. Swansea can only hope that the Manchester United players will have some problems playing under a new manager.

Despite this, I believe we will see a well played match with chances in both ends. Wilfried Bony will do everything to show that Laudrup brought him to the Premier League to score goals, and along with Michu they can be a deadly combination. That said, the defends still looks a little leggy why I believe that Manchester United will win this match with a 3-0 score.

What are the odds?

BETVICTOR offers a 20/21 bet for a Manchester United while a Swansea City match gives a 19/5 at StanJames.

For some time, there has been talks about a salary cap in the English Premier League. Something, most of the clubs are arguing against. For the next couple of weeks, Great Dane Football Blog will put focus on the wages in the Premier League and find out if they have any impact on the club's chances of winning trophies.

Last week we looked on the best paid goalkeeper, defender, midfielder and attacker, among the five richest clubs in England. This week we take a look on the amount of money the clubs has spent every season since 2002/03, compared with other Premier League clubs. The first chart for every season shows all the clubs together while the second single out the five clubs we are investigating; Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool.

As mentioned,  we start with the 2002/03 season of the Premier League. It is important to mention that the numbers from Bolton have been unavailable, why they do not figure in the chart. Not only was Manchester United the winner of the Premier League this season, they were also the club spending most on wages; 10.8 per cent of the total wages.
Arsenal follows just second both in the league and when it comes to wages, with 8.2 per cent of the total wages. Meanwhile, Chelsea and Liverpool stands for 7.4 per cent each they were placed fourth and fifth after Newcastle in the league. The Toons only spent £45.2m equal 6.1 per cent. It is worth mentioning that Leeds ended 15th in the league but was the club that spent third most on wages this season. Manchester City, on the other hand only takes 4.6 per cent of the wages for this season.

Take a look at the following charts to see the development both Chelsea and Manchester City have gone through and what impact the have had on the total wages. At the same time, Arsenal, Manchester United and   Liverpool have had a more steady development and impact.
