One of the most talked about football topics this summer was the battle between Petr Cech and Thibaut Courtois. Yesterday, Courtois was the first choice against Burnley.

Jose Mourinho kept it a secret until the very first match of the season; who would be his first choice? The answer seems to be Thibaut Courtois. The Belgian international returned from Atletico Madrid prior to this season and had proclaimed that he would only return if it were to become the first choice in the Chelsea goal. However, Chelsea already had one of the greatest goalkeepers in the Premier League; Petr Cech. Now, the Czech is on the bench, but is he better than Courtois?

Great Dane Football Blog have made a quick comparison between the two goalkeepers last season, and here is what we found out:

Based on last season Courtois is the best of the two goalkeepers; despite playing ten matches more than Cech he only conceded five goals more, and had a better clean sheet record.

Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole have both left Chelsea, and 32-year old Cech might be the next. This might be the right time for Chelsea to let a new and younger goalkeeper make his impact on the team, but Cech still has an awful lot of experience that might come in handy later in the season; especially if Courtois fails to perform against the better half of the Premier League.

One thing is for sure: Cech is in a part of his career where he can not afford to be placed among the substitutes. The Czech needs to play to keep his position on the Czech national team, and a transfer could be on the way, despite Mourinho wishing to keep his now former No. 1. Both Barcelona and Nuremberg has been mentioned as new clubs for the goalkeeper.

The battle of Stamford Bridge in ongoing and it will be interesting to see if Mourinho can keep Cech in the club. Some will say he has a luxury problem.

Manchester United got three important points against Swansea last round, but this week they are facing Chelsea who are unbeaten in their last six matches. Match of the week is a clash between two English titans!

Chelsea v Manchester United
Barclays Premier League Round 22
Stamford Bridge
19-01-2013 @ 16.00 UK

How are the two teams form?

Chelsea are currently second in the Premier League, with Arsenal playing against Aston Villa later this evening, only one point from Manchester City in the lead. The last six matches Chelsea have left the pitch as winners, and especially Eden Hazard have been playing well with nine goals this season.

Manchester United is still suffering from a bad start, placing them seventh in the league table after the weekends win against Swansea. The Red Devils have won five of their last six matches and are three points behind Tottenham on the sixth, before this match.

Chelsea have won three of the last ten meetings between the two sides. That's one less than Manchester United while the two teams have left the pitch sharing points three times.

What are the probable line ups?

Chelsea are still without a couple of players including Frank Lampard and Branislav Ivanovic. However, their opponent on Sunday are in even bigger problems with nine players either injured or doubtful including Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and Rio Ferdinand. Furthermore, United will have to do without Fabio who is still serving the three match ban he received against Swansea on the 5th January.

Mikel - Ramires

Willian - Oscar - Hazard

What to expect from this match?

Chelsea are in eminent form at the moment and making their way to the top. It will be up to a unstable Manchester United team to stop them, and get three vital points at the Bridge on Sunday. However, given Chelsea seems unstoppable at the moment they are the favorites and considering Manchester United's injury problems they will get in trouble holding Chelsea away from scoring. I expect Manchester to fight their best and show how brave they really are, but I can only see Chelsea take the three points.
