Moyes took over for Alex Ferguson in Manchester United before this season, leaving Arsene Wenger as the most serving manager in the Premier League. That can change by the end of this season.

After 18-years in the seat Arsene Wenger might be the end game for the French in Arsenal. Losing to Everton this weekend was just another disappointment, and what looked to be a promising season have more or less turned out to be a battle just to get in the Champions League.

Most focus has been on David Moyes taking over for Sir Alex Ferguson, and not living up to the expectations. That might have saved Wenger from some media attention, but with the top three slipping away both fans and sports journalists will be hunting him down. Even Ian Wright, who have been faithful to Wenger, is now talking about the need for change and is mentioning Roberto Martinez as the perfect replacement.

The future in Arsenal is already uncertain for Wenger, but only because he still haven't signed a new contract with only a few months left of the current. The Arsenal board still supports the manager, but it seems as the fans have lost their patience with him as they face another season without silverware. However, the Gunners are still in the FA Cup where they face Wigan in the semi finals. Winning the FA Cup can save the season for the fans and the manager. That said, should Arsenal fail to qualify for the Champions League, it will be for the first time in 18 years.

Last week, Wenger told that he would still be aiming to bring in young players to the squad, and give them a chance and the players would then pay back by staying in the club. However, the last couple of years fans have seen one profile after the other getting his chance and they leaving for another club. Wenger brought in Ozil, but Arsenal will need more than just one star on the team if they want to win the Premier League. Especially when Ozil has disappointed since January.

Maybe it is time for a new manager with new eyes on the squad. Roberto Martinez is an exciting coach, and in Everton he has already proven that he is a manager for the future. Only a win in the FA Cup and some star players can get the fans behind Wenger again.

After more than 26 years with Sir Alex Ferguson as the manager, Manchester United is going through a troubled period with the new manager, David Moyes.

Every football fan knew that taking over for Sir Alex Ferguson would be the world's hardest job, and it has shown to be for David Moyes. 6 matches into his first season with the Red Devils, United is 12th in the Premier League with only 7 points; the worst start for the club in many years. Some might blame the manager, but here at Great Dane Football Blog the players seems to be the problem.

After the Ferguson era, Manchester United is going through a transition with a new manager, who at the same time needs to make his mark on the squad and bring in some new names. Let's face it, the squad have a couple of players who never reached the level hoped for with Ferguson as manager, and who are not worth their weekly pay.

Among the goalkeeper's, Anders Lindegaard never managed to grab the chance when he got it, and will be better of finding somewhere else to guard the goal. The same matters for Ben Amos who is not even close to getting in action. As long as De Gea keeps performing more or less stable none of the two reserves will get a chance, and it might be better for the club if they find a goalkeeper with a higher level than Lindegaard and Amos. However, finding a new goalkeeper should not be the main target for the next transfer window.

Looking towards your old manager?
Manchester United have one of the most routine defenses with Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra, but all three of them have reached an age where their career is lacking towards an end. That said, the squad has some very talented and young players in Rafael, Fabio, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones. However, players with more Premier League experience are needed for the future why a name as Leighton Baines will be a pleasant add to the squad.

The midfield is probably the greatest problem for United. Paul Scholes retired for his second time this summer, and the midfield needs a man like him. Darren Fletcher is currently out with a long term illness and Ryan Giggs is probably not fit enough for a whole season. Meanwhile, United has players as Anderson and Ashley Young who are simply not worth the money they are paid. Moyes have brought in Fellaini from Everton in a try to close the gap on the midfield, but first of all United needs to get rid of the marginal players and spend the money more wisely on class players and real talent. Ross Barkley could be a future star on the Manchester team.

In front, Manchester United has a very good attack with van Persie and Rooney as the stars. Danny Welbeck will never reach the same level as the two first, but he is a well qualified reserves. However, it would not harm United to bring in a real goal maker to help van Persie. Here, a man as Christian Benteke would be an obvious transfer target.

After 26 years in the Manchester United seat, Sir Alex Ferguson has decided to retire. The new man in the seat is the now former Everton manager, David Moyes. Great Dane Football Blog gives you five reasons why Moyes is the right man for the job.

5. Hand picked by Ferguson

Rumours says that Sir Alex Ferguson himself, has hand picked David Moyes as his replacement. There is no doubt that Ferguson will have had his say on the man to follow him, and if he really has hand picked Moyes, he must believe that the former Everton manager has what it takes to lead United to victory.

4. Less controversial

One of the names mentioned as a replacement for Alex Ferguson was Jose Mourinho. The "special one" is known as a controversial figure and might have caused more damage than glory to Manchester United. Instead, David Moyes is more of the English gentleman with history with almost none controversies. It's worth noticing than you almost never see Moyes actively seeking controversies.

3. Manager for the long run

Manchester United are a club that wants a manager for the long run. David Moyes has been loyal to Everton for 11 years and fits perfectly to United's tradition of long term stability. He will get the space and the board will be patient with him, as he is replacing the man synonymous with Manchester United.

2. Experience of a tight budget

David Moyes has worked on an extremely low budget in Everton and still managed to make them a sub-top team in the Premier League. Manchester United has debt issues and to some extent Moyes will be working on a tight budget here, as well. That said his transfer possibilities will be far better than they were in Everton.

1. Likes to promote within

Just like Alex Ferguson David Moyes likes to promote youth players to the senior team. In 2002, he was the manager to give Wayne Rooney his debut when he was only 16-year-old. Manchester United is known for their academy, and we might see a few extra youth players for Manchester United in the future. Furthermore, promoting youth players saves money!

"This is the end, my only friend, the end", the lyrics from the Doors' "The End" matches the thoughts of many Manchester United fans after the shocking news: Ferguson is pulling the plug!

Whether you like him or not, Sir Alex Ferguson is a legend; a living legend. While the Manchester United players will raise the Premier League trophy for the 20th time, it will also mark the end of an era. Since 1986, the angry Scot has been in charge of Manchester United bringing not less than 38 trophies to Old Trafford. An impressive career, that just becomes more fantastic when you add up the 11 trophies from his time in ST Mirren and Aberdeen.

However, it is not only the good things we will remember about the Scot. Through out his career, there has been some controversies; including kicking a boot in the face of David Beckham. Many football fans have a love/hate relationship to the man, who is known for not keeping his mind shut - often in an attack on other players, managers or referees.

But as we look back, the Premier League won't be the same without Sir Alex Ferguson. Some might even argue that Ferguson is the Premier League as not many has the same status as he has in England. The next question, and probably what most Manchester United fans worry about today is, what will happen now? The rumour mill already sends David Moyes to the Old Trafford, as well as Jurgen Klopp. While Ferguson will step back from his managing position, he will still have an influence as director and he will without a doubt have his say on who will follow him. God bless the man who tries!
