Name: Jeff Andy Mensah
               Age: 20 (10.08.1992)
          Position: Winger
              Club: Viborg F.F
International caps: Denmark U21: 1 Match(es)
                                 0 Goal(s)
                    Denmark U20: 3 Match(es)
                                 1 Goal(s)
                    Denmark U19: 1 Match(es)
                                 0 Goal(s)
             Value: £275.000

He is twenty years old and has already played more than sixty matches for his club Viborg F.F. Here, the Assistant coach, Søren Frederiksen, describes Jeff Mensah as “a physical strong and energetic player”.

Jeff Mensah has played in Viborg throughout his entire career. He started in the club’s youth department F.K. Viborg before signing a contract with the senior club in 2008. Back then, Mensah rejected one of the other leading clubs in Jutland, Aalborg BK.

The debut for Mensah came only two years later, when he was sent on the pitch against Vejle in the Danish 1. Division. Here, Mensah played his first senior match along with his brother Kevin Mensah and even though he only played ten minutes, the talent sees it as a great experience:

“I have played in Viborg all of my life; I’m born and raised in Viborg, so playing for the team I have always followed is great.”

Jeff Mensah’s first starting match was against Brabrand. Here, the offensive player also scored his first goal. Even though, the young player has scored a sensational goal from 55 meters distance; goals are not something you see from the talent every day. Søren Frederiksen points out that:

“He is missing some overview and to be able to come forward in the attacking play; to create more chances and score more goals”.

Jeff Mensah is not only used on the wing or in the attacking roles. The Danish-Ghanaian has filled out the position as both wing back and central midfield, especially in his breakthrough season last year. However, Mensah is aware of the drawback of being an all-around player:

“I’m best in the attacking role, and my coach know this. I’m not playing the back position to become an all around player, and I don’t hope it will turn out this way. However, I have not had the fear for this to happen.”

While Jeff Mensahs brother Kevin Mensah has been on trial in clubs as Arsenal and Newcastle United, Jeff is still missing the chance to show a big foreign club what he is made of. However, there is no envy from the young player.

“It is just fantastic to see him in a greater club, and he has done well. I just hope that one of us will have the chance once again, but right now we are playing in Viborg.”

Assistant coach Søren Frederiksen is also hoping to keep the two brothers in the squad for a while longer:

They are some wonderful boys to work with and are always in a good mode. I enjoy working with them and hope that I can give them some advice and some experience from my own career, so they one day can take the next step.”

The next step for Jeff Mensah is far out in the future he assures the fans of Viborg. However, he speaks well about English football which he describes as, “a great football culture and one of the places you would like to go”. Another possibility for Mensah is Holland as it matches his “play style”.

Mensah has so far played four youth matches for Denmark and scored one goal. The attacking midfielder has a Ghanaian background and can play for Ghana. However, it is not something the Dane has thought about:

“It is a possibility, but it is not something I consider. I don’t know the culture of Ghana, and I am playing in Denmark where I have been a part of the youth teams so I am hoping to play for the Danish national team if I should have the chance”.

Jeff Mensah, who played and scored in last nights 4-1 win against Hjørring, is on contract with Viborg until 2014.

Throughout history, Danish footballers have had their time in the Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam. Players as Jan Mølby, Frank Arnesen, Jesper Grønkjær and both Laudrup brothers have been in the club. This season the squad contains six Danes, three of them are the hopes of the future for Denmark.

Christian Poulsen
Age: 32 (28.2.1980)
Position: Central midfield
Former clubs: FC Copenhagen, Schalke 04, Sevilla, Juventus, Liverpool, Evian.
Value: £2.000.000

Most Danish football fans rubbed their eyes a little in disbelief when Poulsen was announced in Ajax. The former Danish national captain is seen as an "over-the-hill" player. However, Poulsen has had an impressive career and is one of the only players in the world to have played in all of the five biggest European leagues. There is no doubt, that Poulsen in brought to Ajax this season, to give some routine to a young team.

Lasse Schöne
Age: 26 (27.5.1986)
Position: Central midfield
Former clubs: Lyngby BK, SC Heerenveen, De Graafschap, NEC Nijmegen
Value: £3.500.000

Lasse Schöne joined Ducth football in an early age and was unkown to many Danish football fans. However, the Dane has a great reputation in Holland, where he has been a profile in both De Graafschap and NEC Nijmegen. Last season was probably his best, which opened the door for a transfer to Ajax. The midfielder with the nickname Lassie has so far played thirteen matches and scored 2 goals for the Danish national team.

Christian Eriksen
Age: 20 (14.2.1992)
Position: Central/Attacking midfield
Former clubs: Odensen Boldklub
Value: 14.000.000£

Christian Eriksen in not only a hot name in Ajax, but also in the rest of Europe. Throughout the summer, he has been linked with both Manchester clubs and Arsenal. However, the Danish wonderkid is still in Ajax, where he has been urged to stay by former Danish national stars. Eriksen is a profile on the attacking midfield for his team and has shown some first class football the last couple of seasons. Unfortunately, the Danish national team has not seen the same magic yet.

Nicolai Boilesen
Age: 20 (16.2.1992)
Position: Left back
Former clubs: Brøndby IF
Value: 1.100.000£

Boilesen had his breakthrough in Ajax in 2011, where he played several important matches. He could have had his breakthrough for the Danish national team, if it wasn't for his injuries. However, the young back has several years in front of him and will play an important role both in Ajax and for Denmark. In his first match for Ajax, Boilesen made an assist and was nominated as "Man of the Match".

Viktor Fischer
Age: 18 (9.6.1994)
Position: Attacking wing/Striker
Former clubs: FC Midtjylland
Value: 450.000£

Fischer is on every Danes lips at the moment. The young striker is to have his breakthrough in Ajax, after his amazing season last year. Here, he was one of the best players in the youth Champions League, Nextgen Series. In this seasons NextGen Serie, Fischer scored a hattrick last week. The young striker has been linked with Manchester United and Chelsea, but will probably stay in Ajax, where he got his debut this season in the Super Cup against PSV Eindhoven.

Lucas Andersen
Age: 18 (13.10.1994)
Position: Attacking midfield
Former clubs: Aalborg BK
Value: £650.000

Lucas Andersen is the newest Danish name in Ajax. The former Aalborg BK player joined the Dutch club on the last day of the transfer window and has already gotten his debut on the Ajax youth team. Here, he scored two goals last night. Lucas Andersen is one of the most talented players Aalborg has ever had, and he has already been a part of the Danish national league team, as well as a part of the Danish U21 national team.

Both Stoke and Swansea lost last weekend and are now a part of the midtable teams. This weekend they have the chance to put some distance to the lower part of the table. The Match of the Week is between Stoke City and Swansea City.

Premier League
Britannia Stadium
29-09-2012 @ 15.00 BST

What is the status of the two teams, before the match?

Monk: Might return this week
Stoke is without Andy Wilkinson who is still serving his three match ban, give on the 15th September, against Manchester City. Furthermore, Mamady Sidibe is still injured, but might have a chance of a comeback this week.

Swansea is struggling with injuries at the moment. Four players are out for the match against Stoke. Both Kyle Bartley and Neil Taylor is out for a long period, while Kemy Agustien is out for two weeks. Garry Monk might return, but it is still to early to say.

How is the two teams form?

Stoke has so far played four draws, and if it wasn't for Ashley Cole, the Chelsea match would have been just another. The Potters has so far only scored four goals while conceiving five.

Swansea started the season on fire, with a 5-0 win against QPR and 3-0 against West Ham. However, the last two matches have ended in a loss for the Welsh.

What to expect from this match?

Time for goals?
Both teams are looking for a win in this match. When comparing the two teams, Swansea seems to be the best offensive team against a well playing Stoke defends. However, it is about time that Peter Crouch get back in form, and he can be decisive in this match. We can expect a hard played match, with goal potential.

Who is going to win?

Given both teams current form, this looks to me as a draw. Swansea is struggling with their own play style, while Stoke seems to be able to miss every chance in front of goal.

What are the odds?

The bookmakers have Stoke as favorites for this match, while a draw gives around 5/2 back.

              Name: Nicolaj Ritter
               Age: 20 (8-5-1992)

                    Denmark U16:  4 Match(es)
                                  0 Goal(s)
             Value: £175.000 (Transfermarkt.co.uk)

”He is an aggressive, offensive player who loves to interfere in every situation of the match, even when he is not near the ball. He is a player who lives in the game and the type of player who can make things happen”
                                              - Keld Bordingaard, Coach of Silkeborg IF

Nicolaj Ritter moved around between minor clubs in North Jutland, before joining Aalborg BK. However, before his youth career was even started he joined the FC Midtjylland Academy, where he played together with last week’s talent Mads Hvilsom.

“It was a difficult choice to leave Aalborg. I was doing fine and thought that it was the club for me. However, after seeing the concept in FC Midtjylland, with the academy, the school and the pitches I fell in love with the idea. It seemed so professional at the Academy”.
Ritter joined Midtjylland at the age of fifteen, and thereby had most of his youth in the club. Here, he won two Danish youth Championships and participated in several international cups. It was also in Midtjylland Ritter found his way to the Danish youth national team. However, his senior debut was to be in another club. Last summer, the winger joined Silkeborg IF:

“My time in Midtjylland was the best and I believe that it is the best place to be as a young player. However, I felt that I wouldn’t have any game time on the senior team. To develop I needed some senior game time and I felt that Silkeborg could give it to me”.

In the new club, Ritter went from being nobody to be in the starting XI. His debut in the best Danish league came, ironically, in the 2-1 win against his former club FC Midtjylland. However, the break trough is still to come, but one of the team mates in Silkeborg – former Bolton striker Henrik Pedersen – is sure this is the season for Ritter. The young winger is happy for the trust in him:

“I feel that I am getting better and better from every match I get, and I am proud and happy that a great player as Henrik, trust in me. I just hope I can live up to the expectations”.

Silkeborg coach Keld Bordingaard ensures that the break through is not impossible for Ritter, but he can’t “promise either Henrik or Ritter that it will happen.”

Since his transfer to Silkeborg, Nicolaj Ritter has been a part of the Danish U19 national team as well as the U20, where he had his debut this year. It is a dream for the young player, to play for the Danish senior national team, however; it is not something he worries about at the time. Instead, Ritter dreams to transfer to a foreign club one day:

“If I have the chance in a couple of years, it is defiantly an opportunity. I would really like to experience life as a Dane in a foreign club.”

Ritter would prefer to play in the Dutch or Spanish league, and has Real Madrid as his favorite team. However, right now the talent keeps his feet on the Danish ground, and his coach urges him to stay there:

“Right now there is plenty of challenges for Ritter, in the Danish Superliga.”
