Once Premier League was all about football; players now a day are having trouble keeping focus on the pitch after another sex scandal have emerged in England.

Monday, Sunderland midfielder Adam Johnson was arrested and released on bail on suspicion of having sex with a 15-year-old girl, as well as suspended by the club. Another sex scandal haunts the Premier League.

It's far from the first time a Premier League player is in trouble for playing in the bedroom rather than on the pitch. Through time, we have seen John Terry taking well care of his teammate's wives, Ashley Cole and Olivier Giroud doing anyone else than their (well fit) wives. If we go back to the late 1990's, some will remember (or desperately try to forget) Mark Bosnich and Dwight York being spanked wearing women's clothing. Oh, the Premier League is more than 20 teams and a shit load of money!

And there are much more where that comes from, but do we as fans really need to know what the players are doing outside the pitch? The answer is both yes and no.

Yes, because as a Premier League star, you are a role model for lots of children and young people around the world following and copying their favorite player. Being a role model means you have to maintain a strong ethic and moral and not put yourself in a spot where your acts can be questioned. That includes adultery and having sex with minors.

No, because players have a life outside the pitch as well. They should be allowed to live a life outside the media eye, but when you are famous for what you do, you must expect that the press will be keeping a eye on you - constantly.

The FA has a history of investigating and punishing racial abuse from players. The question is if they should start investigating players when they are involved in cases as harmful as Adam Johnsons. However, in Johnsons case the alleged crime has been committed during his time off, and it can be argued that the FA has nothing to say then.

One thing is for sure; if the players either need to control their sex life or at least keep it under the media radar.

With the international break now over attention turns back to the Premier League as Sunderland take on Tottenham at the Stadium of Light this Saturday.

By Paul Lipscombe

Sunderland find themselves on two points from their opening three games, but look a more solid side than the one that struggled for most of last season. A source of frustration however for the Black Cats was their failure to re-sign Fabio Borini from Liverpool last season. Although a fee was agreed over the summer, Borini opted to decline a move north.

Tottenham on the other hand have started the season off brightly with six points from the nine available. Last time out they were outplayed at home to Liverpool and lost 3-0, which once again highlighted Spurs’ inferior record against the league’s top sides. The club were relatively quiet in the transfer window with no marquee signing in particular after failing to sign Morgan Schniederlin and Danny Welbeck, who instead opted for bitter rivals Arsenal.

Going into this game, Spurs have had the better of the last few meetings against Sunderland and are unbeaten on their last four trips to the Stadium of Light, winning three of those. Last season Spurs won both meetings, with a 2-1 away win and a 5-1 home win and Sunderland will no doubt be looking to put this right this time around.

The game should be an exciting one as we expect to see a few new faces making their debuts. Sunderland may hand out debuts to new additions Ricky Alvarez and Sebastian Coates, whilst Spurs may start new centre back Federico Fazio and Benjamin Stambouli.

Last five meetings between the games

7th April 2012- Sunderland 0-0 Tottenham
29th December 2012- Sunderland 1-2 Tottenham
19th May 2013- Tottenham 1-0 Sunderland
7th December 2013- Sunderland 1-2 Tottenham
7th April 2014- Tottenham 5-1 Sunderland

The following Friday's the Friday Five will list 5 new players on different positions to keep an eye on during
this Premier League season. Today, we start with the goalkeepers!

5. Joel Robles, 23, Everton

Joined from Atlético Madrid

When Roberto Martínez took over Everton, he brought some of his former players in Wigan with him. The 23-year-old Spanish goalkeeper Joel Robles is one of them. Robles convinced Martínez in his 8 matches, during his loan spell to Wigan from Atlético Madrid last year. The Spaniard is a product of Gestafe's youth department which he left for Atlético Madrid in 2005. However, the talent never made a first team performance for the Madrid's before joining first Rayo Vallecano and later Wigan. It is very doubtful he will get much first team experience this season as Tim Howard seems to be the first pick in Everton. However, he will be worth watching once he gets his chance.

4. Vito Mannone, 24, Sunderland
Joined from Arsenal

When Simon Mignolet left Sunderland for Liverpool, the Black Cats were quick to bring in the former Italian youth national Vito Mannone. The Italian joined Arsenals youth department from Atalanta in 2005 and was given his debut in the Premier League against Hull in 2009 - 21 years old. Since his debut in 2009, it has only been to 15 matches for the Gunners, and two loan spells at Hull City. However, last season the Italian impressed with some good actions while both Lukasz Fabianski and Wojciech Szczesny were out with injuries. Despite his good performances, Mannone found himself as the third choice in Arsenal why a transfer to Sunderland seemed as the best option. In Sunderland, he will be battling with Kieren Westwood for the hot spot, but the Italian seems to be the first choice for Paolo Di Canio.

3. Adrián, 26, West Ham United
Joined from Real Betis

One season for Real Betis first team was enough for Adrián to impress West Ham. And no wonder - the Spanish goalkeeper was one of the best players for Real Betis last season reaching a 7th in La Liga. With his 11 matches without conceding a goal,  there can be no doubt that the Hammers has found themselves a classy goalkeeper. However, in West Ham Adrián will be battling with Jussi Jääskeläinen and Stephen Henderson, with the first as the hardest contender. That said, Jääskeläinen has reached an age where it is time to let a new player come through. I believe that we will see Adrián in the goal from the first round of the Premier League.

2. Maarten Stekelenburg, 30, Fulham
Joined from AS Roma

For many years,  Mark Schwarzer was for many years the goalkeeper in Fulham. However, the Australian rejected to sign a new contract and left for Chelsea this summer. Instead, Fulham brought in the Dutch international goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg from AS Roma. The 30-year-old is a product of Ajax Amsterdams youth system and was the first choice for the Dutch champions until 2011 where he left for Roma. With Stekelenburg, Fulham gets a routined goalkeeper with more than 50 international caps and experience from the Champions League and the Europa League. There is no doubt in my mind that Stekelenburg can be one of the best goalkeepers this season.

1. Simon Mignolet, 25, Liverpool
Joined from Sunderland

Simon Mignolet does not need much presentation; the Belgian goalkeeper was on everybody's lips last year with his outstanding performances for Sunderland. During the summer Mignolet has been reported to both Manchester clubs as well as Arsenal and Chelsea, but it was Liverpool who won the race. Here, the Belgians arrival has sent Pepe Reina to Napoli, leaving Mignolet as the first choice. The big question is if Mignolet can play as good as he did in Sunderland. In Liverpool,  he will be faced with greater expectations and a lot more pressure and this season will show if he is the star goalkeeper he has the potential to be.

The new Sunderland manager showed his 'dirty dancing' after Sunderland's victory against Newcastle last weekend. Obviously, the manager has developed his celebration since leaving Swindon Town... Take a look!

Paolo Di Canio has always been known for his celebrations, both the controversial and the happy ones. During his time as a player, the Italian shocked the European football society with his Hitler salute.

Later, in Swindon Town he became more controlled and his celebrations were more emotional.

However, things certainly changed as Di Canio became manager of Sunderland. Suddenly, Di Canio made Patrick Swayze look bad:

We all talk about players Robin Van Persie, Luis Suarez and other profiles from the Premier League. Today, Great Dane Football Blog, takes a look on five players, which I believe is the most underrated players in the Premier League.

5. Anthony Pilkington, Norwich City

The 24-year old winger is considered as one of the most underrated players in the Premier League. First of all he managed to jump two leagues, transferring from the League One team Huddersfield Town to Norwich. Secondly, he scored 8 goals and made one assist in his first season in the Premier League. Well done, for a guy who haven't gotten any international experience except for one U21 Ireland match. If he keeps up his play, Roy Hodgson and Giovanni Trapattoni will battle to have him on their national team.

4. Shane Long, West Bromwich Albion

Shane Long has played a few years in the Premier League, first for Reading where he scored 46 goals and now in West Bromwich Albion. In WBA,  he has become one of this season's profiles and has kept Lukaku on the bench. What makes Shane Long one of the most underrated players, is his work rate and unselfishness. The Irish national team saw this years ago and now it seems as Liverpool seeing the same.

3. Jobi McAnuff, Reading

The 31-year old midfielder is having his longest spell at a club, in Reading. Here, he has become the captain and is perhaps one of the most creative players on the team. His ability to make the right crosses and passings is underrated, but the numbers speaks for themselves. Last season, McAnuff was behind 11 assists in the Championship while he has made 4 so far in this season. This player really knows how to set his team mates up!

2. Sebastian Larsson, Sunderland

Sebastian Larsson spend his younger years at Arsenal, and the Sunderland midfielder is exactly what Arsene Wenger is looking for in Arsenal at the moment. The Swede has had a major impact on the Birmingham team, before joining Sunderland as is perhaps one of the most dangerous players on free kicks. The selfishness that Larsson shows during matches and his ability to set his team mates up is what makes him a great player, but also one of the most underrated.

1. Matthew Etherington, Stoke City

The 31-year old winger is fundamental for Stoke City. His ability to rush down the line and deliver a precise cross to his team mates is crucial for the way Stoke likes to play. During his four seasons at Britannia Stadium, he has delivered not less than 29 assists. This guy knows how to pass the ball! That Ethrington is underrated is shown by his lack of international matches for England - none!

The EURO 2012 is full of potential players for the English Premier League. Great Dane Football Blog, list the five players I find most likely to play in England next season.

1.    Luuk de Jong
      Target for: Liverpool and Newcastle

The Twente striker ended as number two on the Dutch topscorer list, with 25 goals, and was a vital part of the club's season. Newcastle has already lined up De Jong, if Demba Ba should leave the club, but he is also on the short list in Liverpool. However, the Dutch himself is keener on playing for Bayern Munich in Germany.

De Jong will be a pleasant signing for Liverpool, who has been missing a striker since Torres left for Chelsea. He will fit perfect in the Liverpool offensive together with Andy Carroll. Newcastle has in Cisse and Ba two quality strikers, and one of them needs to leave in order to make room for de Jong.

2.    João Moutinho
     Target for: Chelsea

Moutinho has been on the Chelsea short list since Mourinho was managing the team. This summer might be the time for the transfer as he already has admitted that he is ready to leave Porto.

Chelsea has a history of bringing Portuguese players to the club, and Moutinho will fit into a midfield that needs new and younger players. A transfer could be just around the corner, but some great performances at the EURO can bring the prize at a level that Chelsea will not pay. However, as the player has already announced that he is ready to leave Porto, the club may have to accept any offer.

3.    Javi Martinez
Target for: Manchester United and Manchester City

Javi Martinez is on several European top clubs short list, including both Manchester clubs. The Athletic Bilbao midfielder has announced that he is ready to leave the Spanish club, but the question is who will win the transfer race.

Real Madrid is reported to have started negotiations with the player, but this has not been verified. A transfer to Manchester City might not be the right option for the young player, as he will be just another name in the squad. However, in Manchester United the player might have a chance of playing some first team football, as he can turn out to be the future on the midfield for the Red Devils.

4.    Tomáš Pekhart

      Target for: Sunderland

The Czech has a past in Tottenham, where he never made his breakthrough. However, Pekhart might be playing in the Premier League next season. The Nuremberg striker has been short listed by Sunderland since last summer, and a well played EURO might be the tipping point for a transfer to the North English club.

Pekhart might be the giant hitman that the Black Cats need up front after Nicklas Bendtner has left the club and will fit in the ambitious team.

5.    Mario Götze
      Target for: Arsenal

Earlier this year Mario Götze signed a new contract with Dortmund, to great disappointment for Arsenal. Even so, the German could transfer to the London club this summer. Götze is a profile in Dortmund and will not be cheap to buy, and it is not going to be any easier if he plays a great EURO.

Right now, Rennais’ Yann M’vila is the hottest player for Arsenal, but should a transfer go wrong Mesut Özil will be next on the short list. Arsenal needs a midfielder that can be creative and at the same time has some defensive abilities. Özil can be the one.

Last week's football list featured the five most influential Danish players in the Premier League. This week it is all about the five least influential Danish players.

1.    Per Krøldrup
Everton: 1 Premier League match, 1 FA Cup match

The Danish defender joined Everton from Udinese in 2005, but got injured before playing his first match for the team. He had his debut and only match in the Premier League, in the 4-0 to Aston Villa, as well as a FA Cup match against Millwall as a substitute. After a failing season in Everton, Krøldrup signed a contract with Italian Fiorentina, where he still plays. Per Krøldrup was ranked as the fifth worst player to have ever played for one of the Merseyside clubs, By Liverpool Echo in 2007.

2.    Martin Johansen
Coventry City: 2 Premier League matches, 1 League Cup match

Martin Johanssen joined Coventry City from FC Copenhagen in 1997. After a successful period in Copenhagen, Coventry bought Johansen from the Danish club while Bolton bought his twin brother Michael. While Michael Johansen had a successful stay in Bolton, Martin spend two seasons on the bench and only made three appearances for Coventry before transferring to Lyngby BK in 1999.

3.    Mikkel Bischoff
Manchester City: 1 Premier League match,
      1 UEFA Cup match
      Wolverhampton Wanderes: 11 Championship matches
      Sheffield Wednesday: 4 Championship match
      Coventry City: 3 Championship matches

Manchester City signed Mikkel Bischoff from Akademisk Boldklub in a try to strengthen the team for the future. However, Bischoff’s stay in Manchester was far from successful. After his first match for the club, he had to go through surgery due to a hernia injury. When he was back for the club, he injured his foot during a Danish U21 match. The season after he appeared in his second and last match for City, in the UEFA Cup match against TNS from Wales.  Bischoff went on a successful one month loan in Wolverhampton Wanderers, followed up by a loan in Coventry City. In 2007, the Dane was joined the Danish club Brøndby on a free transfer. Today, Bischoff is on a free agent.

4.    Carsten Fredgaard
      Sunderland: 1 Premier League matches,
      4 League Cup matches
West Bromwich Albion: 5 Division One matches
Bolton Wanderers:  5 Division One matches

Carsten Fredgaard started his unsuccessful stay in Sunderland in 1999. Even though, she scored two goals on the League Cup (Worthington Cup) Fredgaard never worked himself into the first team squad, and he is most known for his nickname, Chocolate Fireguard, during his Sunderland era. Carsten Fredgaard won on a loan in both West Bromwich and Bolton Wanderers before joining FC Copenhagen in 2001, where he had more success. Fredgaard today plays in the Danish 2. Division for HIK.

5.    Christian Poulsen
Liverpool: 12 Premier League matches, 9 Europa League matches

When Liverpool signed Christian Poulsen in August 2010, they signed a player with a great C.V. With over hundred matches for Schalke 04 in the German Bundesliga, as well as a great reputation in Spain and Italy after his seasons in Sevilla and Juventus. However, Christian Poulsen never got the success in Liverpool as he could have hoped for. He was one of Roy Hodgsons purchases that never had an impact on the squad, and the fans often found his performances lacking in skill. After Kenny Dalglish took over in the club, time ran out for Poulsen, who transferred to Evian.

The Danish national player is seen as one of the biggest talents in Danish football as well as English football, but the latest years of scandals surrounding the Sunderland attacker have rubbed the shine of Nicklas Bendtner.

Nicklas Bendtner joined Arsenal from the Danish club KB, aged 16, in 2004. Already from this point, things started going fast for Bendtner. In 2005, he had his debut for Arsenal against Sunderland in the League Cup, aged 17, followed up by a professional contract.

In Denmark, Bendtner was selected to play for the Danish U21 national team during the European Championship in Portugal, only aged 18. Here, he had his debut in 2-0 victory against Spain – both goals made by Bendtner. The instant success from the young Dane resulted in Paul Le Guen trying to bring him to Glasgow Rangers. However, Bendtner decides to join the Championship club Birmingham FC on a 6 months loan, where he was guaranteed first team experience.

Once again, had the Danish talent instant success as he scored in his debut. After the match, Birmingham manager Steve Bruce said:
Mikael Fossel had his breakthrough when he was on loan from Chelsea, and let us hope the same happens for Nicklas. He is a different type of attacker, but he has great opportunities to go all the way to the highest level, as long as he can keep both feet on the ground.
Shortly after his debut for Birmingham, Danish national coach Morten Olsen selected Bendtner for the A-squad to play in the friendly against Poland in August 2006. Here, Bendtner was in the starting XI and once again scored in his debut. This resulted in a reselection for the friendly against Portugal and the European Qualification match against Iceland. Bendtner was now seen as the next great attacking hope for Denmark. The attacker scores his second goal in his just second national cap and the success is followed with the winning of the player of the month prize in the Championship. The success doesn't seem to, and the media also contributes to the players, already high self-confident, as journalist Hyder Jawad compares Bendtners talent with Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen.

Nicklas Bendtner decides to extend his contract with Birmingham for 6 months, and Birmingham is keen to keep the player if they win the Championship and thereby play in the Premier League the next season. At this time, Bendtner is on the shortlist not only in Chelsea FC, but also in Lyon according to the Danish paper Ekstra Bladet.

When the Danish super striker completes his half season in Birmingham by being part of the team of the month in the Championship for November and a position on the Danish Team of the year 2006, AC Milano is reported to be interested. However, Arsène Wenger insures that Bendtner plays for Arsenal next season:
It is fine for Bendtner to be on loan in a club in the next best league (…) I believe in him, so his future lies with us.
The player himself believes that he will have his breakthrough in Arsenal in the 2007 season as well as the future for the Danish national team. But in the middle of all the success, Bendtner shows his dark side as he starts a fight with Barnsley player Anthony Kay in the dying minutes of the Birmingham loss. Bendtner also gets critic from one of his team mates and former Arsenal striker Andy Cole in an interview with the Danish paper BT:
It requires a lot from him, if he wants to play for regularly for Arsenal. He can not just play as he wants to, when he wants to, in the Premier League. Sometimes he is too selfish and does everything in his way and only his way.
Nicklas Bendtner returns to Arsenal after 48 matches and 13 goals for Birmingham in 2007, and at the same time signing a new 5 year contract with Arsenal. The player says to the Danish TV2 Sporten that he believes he has the qualities or will obtain them to breakthrough in Arsenal. But the players high self-confidence is a problem for the other Arsenal players, as an anonymous source reveals to Ekstra Bladet:
He believes that he should be on the team for every match. He believes he is better than Adebayor, and he is not afraid to tell people.
Even though, the other players seems to have problems with the Dane and he at this point is not in the starting XI, Bendtner says to the Danish press that he is not going on a loan again. He will play in Arsenal or another club, but not on loan.  The players attitude in Arsenal as well as on the national team meets criticism by the Danish national coach Morten Olsen. Even though, he is met with criticism, Bendtner becomes Talent of the year in Denmark 2007.

In the start of 2008, Wenger told the press that he counted on Bendtner this year. However, the attackers year started with a smash on the head. Emmanuel Adebayor smashed his head into Bendtners face during the 5-1 loss to Tottenham in the Carling Cup, after Bendtner had scored an own goal. Once again an anonymous source tells Ekstra Bladet that:
It is not a myth. He is unpopular among the other players. They just do not like him. De think he is arrogant and complacent.
And the former Arsenal striker, Alan Smith also tells they paper about the problem:
I am not saying that he has said too much, but if you brag or has exaggerated self-confident and do not perform, the older players will regard it as something wrong.
But the players’ self-confidence is not to be touched as he says to the Danish magazine Idrætsliv, that his goal is to become one of the world’s best strikers and that he will reach that goal. Arsène Wenger boost the player by saying that he has the talent to reach the top, but former Arsenal player John Hartson has another view as he tells the website setanta.com that Bendtner is nowhere near the top players in Premier League.

Before the Scandinavian clash between Denmark and Sweden in 2009, Bendtner speaks to the Danish paper BT claiming that he will be better than Zlatan Ibrahimovich. He will finally have his breakthrough in Arsenal within the next season and then overtake Ibrahimovich.

However, Bendtner may have the ambitions, but his lack of star potential are shown when he is photographed with his pants falling down while being escorted out of a night club, after Arsenals defeat to Manchester United in the Champions Leauge in May 2009. The embarrassing picture results in a fine from Arsène Wenger.

Nicklas Bendtner signs a new 5 year contract with Arsenal in September 2009, paying 25 million a year. Bendtner reveals that the next five years are to be used for bringing him to the top of Europe. Thomas Bendtner, the father and agent, to Nicklas reveals that big European clubs have been trying to him. But the clubs seem to lose interest as Bendtner is once again involved in a scandal.

On the 9th of September, only seven days after he signed a new contract, the Dane crashes in his Aston Martin with 160 km/h on his way to the training ground. The crash injures Bendtner and brings him out of the game in a short time.

When Bendtner is back from his injuries, he is once again met by criticism. This time from Danish national player Martin Jørgensen who says to Danish press that the young player has problems with submitting to the hierarchy on the national team. Bendtner replies that he will only submit because he does not want to be punished. At the same time, Bendtner reveals that he will not play for the Danish U21 team in World Cup, in Denmark, even though he is seen as one of the key players. Nicklas Bendtner now sees himself as a part of the senior team.

Bendtner ends the year winning Player of the Year in Denmark 2009, because of his impressive performances on the national team. After receiving the prize, Bendtner reveals his plan to become top scorer in the World Cup in South Africa 2010 and  the Premier League. His self-confident is once again shown.

2010 started great for the Arsenal player, and he was nominated as Player of the month in March by the clubs fans. But in the summer 2010, Bendtner wanted to leave Arsenal if he was not to be used more often. However, he refused to leave the club on a loan.

This was more than enough for former Arsenal striker Ian Wright how, according to the Danish newspaper BT, said:
Every time Bendtner goes through a period, where he is not in the starting eleven, he is starting to moan.
Nicklas Bendtner also made a final decision not to play in the U21 World Cup for Denmark, as he wanted to spend time with his son. However, Danish press later revealed that Bendtner had actually spent his time in USA with his friends. The fact that the player rather wanted to spent time with his friends, than playing for his national team in Denmark made him a very unpopular man amongst the Danish football fans.

In May ’11 Bendtner decided that it was now time to leave Arsenal, and asked the club permission to be sold, but the club refused to sell him. Agent Thomas Bendtner told that his son was worth 100 million Danish crones (approx. £110.000) and that he was only interested in a club playing, in the Champions League. Several clubs were reported interested including Inter Milano, Borussia Dortmund, Sporting Lissabon, Stoke and Everton. However, most of the clubs later denied being interested. Instead, Arsenal tried to exchange Bendtner for Boltons Gary Cahill, according to the Bolton News, but this was also rejected.

At some point, Bendtner opened the door for staying in Arsenal, until the last day of the transfer market when Sunderland brought him to the club where he was to be reunited with Steve Bruce. The new Sunderland player wanted to bring the club to the top of Premier League and become top scorer. However, the goals were to be waited for.

In the winter 2011, Bendtner was once again involved in scandals. After a national match, started Bendtner a fight in a Hotel in Helsingør, in Denmark. When the fight was announced in the Danish Press, Bendtner promised in a letter that he would change. This was the last time Bendtners name was mentioned in a scandal, he claimed. But on the fourth of December he was caught laughing during a memorial ceremony for Gary Speed. This resulted in hatred from English football fans, and Sunderlands fans demanded that he should not wear their shirt anymore. Then on the 16th of December, was Bendtner and Lee Cattermole was arrested in suspicion of damaging cars after a match against Newcastle. To end a year of scandals, Bendtner lost his driver license in December after being charged for speeding.

Bendtner is still in Sunderland, and the new coach Martin O’Niel is asking for more goals from the attacker. The question is now, if the attacker stays in Sunderland after this season or if he will find a new club. Bendtner has said that he misses Champions League and wants to play for a Champions League club next year. He also opened for a transfer to Russia.

The future will show if Bendter is to be playing for a Champions League club again. One thing is almost certain. His time in Arsenal is over. I am afraid that Bendtners ego is bigger than his talent will ever be and with all the scandals surrounding him, it is going to be hard for him to find a new club. Unless he can make 20 goals in the last part of this season. The scandals have changed him from the Danish hope for the future, to the country’s black sheep. After the latest scandals, Danish football fans have expressed anger with him and wanted him off the Danish national team. It will take a lot for Bendtner to convince, not only Denmark, but the world that he is the superstar he wants to be. Time will show if he is capable of doing so….
