On this date, 18 years ago the French Manchester United star Eric Cantona showed his Kung-Fu skills against a Crystal Palace fan... Great Dane Football Blog celebrates some of the most controversial moments in English Football.

5. Brian Clough hits fans

Brian Clough has always been a rather controversial manager, adding to this reputation in 1989. Clough was manager of the Nottingham Forest team winning 5-2 against QPR, when fans ran into the pitch celebrating. However, Clough was not a fund of the fans reaction and punched two in the face. The two fans were so devoted to Forest and Brian Clough that they both apologised for their behaviour on national television.

4. The Toon fight

In 2005, Newcastle United was behind 3-0 against Aston Villa, however, the worst part of that match was the fight between the team mates Lee Bowyer and Kieron Dyer. The bust-up occurred in the 81st minute when the two players squared up after a heated exchange. Lee Bowyer appeared to throw the first punch while Kieron Dyer only defended himself not punching back. However, both players received a red card and apologised to the club and the fans after match, promising it would never happen again.

3. Keegan vs. Bremner

Back in the 70's Billy Bremner was two combative souls. During the 1974's Charity Shield,  a brawl broke out between the two, and both was sent of. As that wasn't enough both players decided to throw their shirts to the ground in aggression, and walked bare-chested from the pitch. Both players were banned for 11 games and fined £500.

 2. Barton vs. Manchester City

Joey Barton is known for his outburst both on and off the pitch. Last year, during the match against Manchester City last season, Barton went mad. First, he elbows Tevez in the face, and was sent off. Then he tried to kicked Agüero before trying to headbutt Micah Richards... Result: 12 games ban.
