Greece - Czech Republic 1-2

The Czech Republic sat on the match from the start and scored the first goal after just two minutes. Petr Jiracek won a duel against goal keeper Kostas Chalkias and scored even though the keeper managed to get his hands on the ball.  Only three minutes later the Czech’s could celebrate again as Selassie send a flat cross into the box where Vaclav Pilar managed to put a foot on the ball and scorer to 0-2.  This was also the result after a first half where the Czech Republic was most dominating.

In the break, the Greek’s sent Theofanis Gekas on the pitch and he brought some excitement back in the match, when he reduced to 1-2. It was an easy goal as Petr Cech completely misjudges a shot and did not catch the ball. Instead, it landed in the feet of Gekas who easily could send it in the back of the net. Greece turned up the intensity, but it was not enough to comeback in the match that ended with a win for the Czech Republic.

Poland - Russia 1-1

Poland went into this match as underdogs but put a massive pressure on Russia. This gave them some significant chances in the start of the match and already after ten minutes, Robert Lewandowski was close to bringing his nation in front. After eighteen minutes of play, some fine combinations send Eugen Polanski through in the Russian box where he sends the ball in the back of the net. However, the referee saw it as offside.  Instead, it was Russia and Alan Dzagoev who would scorer the first goal after thirty-six minutes of play.  0-1 was the result of the first half, which was very even.

Second half started as the first with chances to both teams. After an hour of play, Polands Jakub Blaszczykowski received the ball in the right side and took a run into the pitch. Here, he shot with his left leg and scored a beautiful goal leaving goalkeeper Malafeev chanceless. The goal started the Polish players, but it was not enough and the match ended in a draw.

Denmark - Portugal 2-3

Denmark had won last time the two teams met, and most Danish fans believed that they could do it again. The Danes started the match well, putting pressure on Portugal and won a couple of corner kicks. However, the Danish chances lacked of quality while Portugal was more dangerous in front of the goal. After twenty five minutes of play, Pepe headed the Portuguese in front after a corner. Denmark had their chances to come back in the match, but it was Helder Postiga who should score the next goal sending Portugal in front by two. However, the Danes managed to reduce before the break, when Krohn-Dehli served the ball for Bendtner who could easily scorer. 1-2 at the break.

In the second half, Denmark had to send Tobias Mikkelsen on the pitch instead of Dennis Rommedahl and the wing contributed with some more offensive play. However, it was the full back Lars Jacobsen who sent a cross into the head of Nicklas Bendtner who could equalize to the scorer 2-2 ten minutes before fulltime. The match now looked like it would end in a draw. Something the Danes would be happy with, but it should soon show that the Portuguese wanted more. Just three minutes before time, Silvestre Varela scored to the result 2-3 sending his nation on the second position of the group.

Gomez received the ball in the right side of the box, turned around and sent it across the box and behind Stekelenburg to the half time result 2-0.

The second half started with pressure from Holland, leaving the Germans with a lot of space and chances. However, with eighteen minutes left it was Robin van Persie who reduced to 1-2 with a hard shot on goal. This gave Holland the overtake, but they did not manage to use it and, therefore, lost the match.
