With the EURO 2012 starting, this week, there is a lot worth watching. In South America we also have a classic battle this week! Here, are five matches, Great Dane Football Blog recommends.

Poland - Greece
EURO 2012 Group A
National Stadium, Warsaw
08-06-2012 at 17.00 BST

Head-to-head (last 3 matches):

Poland: 2 victories / 3 goals

  Draw: 1

Greece: 0 victories / 0 goals

The opening match in EURO 2012 can go both ways. Either it will be a boring marathon match with defensive football, or it will be an exciting offensive. I am hoping for the last, and I am expecting it.  Based on the teams group A, Greece may be the easiest team for Poland. The hosts will have to play some offensive football, and show the opponents and their own fans, that this is their home ground. Jakub Blaszczykowski from Poland is worth keeping an eye on, during this match. The Polack has the speed to tease the Greeks defends, and he will use it. Greece will have to be on their toes to keep up with the winger.

Russia - Czech Republic
EURO 2012 Group A
Municipal Stadium, Wrocław
08-06-2012 at 19.45 BST

Head-to-head (last 1 match):

        Russia: 1 victory / 3 goals

          Draw: 0

Czech Republic: 0 victories / 1 goal

Russia against Czech Republic can turn out to be an interesting match. Even though, I see Russia as the favorite in the group, Czech Republic will be in the top fight. Both teams have some interesting players that are able to be decisive, and we can expect a match full of attacking football. I would keep an eye on Pavel Pogrebnyak, as he is one of the key players on the Russian team. The attacker has had a great season in Fulham, and will be interesting to follow during the European Championships.

Holland - Denmark
EURO 2012 Group B
Metalist Stadium, Kharkiv
09-06-2012 at 17.00 BST

Head-to-head (last 4 matches):

Holland: 2 victories / 7 goals

  Draws: 2

Denmark: 0 victories / 2 goals

Denmark is facing a hard time in group B, with Holland, Germany and Portugal as their opponents. First match is against the Oranje, and it seems as an easy task for the Dutch. Hollands squad is by far better than the Danish, and it look as the Scandinavians will be run over. However, the Danes will not lie down and let them; they will fight for every point. This is going to be a hard played match, and we can expect a card or two heading Denmarks way. Keep an eye on Hollands Luuk de Jong. The Twente striker has scored 25 goals in the Dutch league this season and is on the short list of several Premier League teams.

Argentina - Brazil
International Friendly
Metlife Stadium, New Jersey
09-06-2012 at 20.00 BST

Head-to-head (last 10 matches):

Argentina: 2 victories / 8 goals

     Draw: 3

   Brazil: 5 victories / 18 goals

The never ending rivalry between Brazil and Argentina opens a new chapter on Saturday, when the two teams meet in USA. The word friendly doesn’t apply to these teams when they meet, and we can expect an explosive atmosphere on the pitch. Both teams will contribute with some technical football, which we all love to see. Brazil’s Oscar is worth keeping an eye on. He is the new great hope for Brazilian football and expectations are high. The offensive midfielder is currently playing for Internacional, where he is one of the profiles. Keep him in mind, as he will be one of the leading players in the 2014 World Cup.

Spain - Italy
EURO 2012 Group C
PGE Arena, Gdańsk
10-06-2012 at 17.00 BST

Head-to-head (last 5 matches):

Spain: 2 victories / 5 goals

 Draw: 2

Italy: 1 victory / 3 goals

A clash between two of the major football nations in the first round of EURO 2012: Spain is favorites for winning the whole competition, but Italy might be able to put a stick in the wheel. However, with the current scandals surrounding the Italian team, we don’t even know if they will be a part of this competition on Sunday. The match and we assume it is going to be played, is going to be a match with some of Europe’s greatest profiles and expectations are high. We can look forward to a couple of goals here. Keep an eye on Fabio Borini. I have mentioned him before and have some expectations to him. However, he is not first in the chain of strikers for Italy.
