Tottenham takes on Chelsea at home this weekend, with the former Chelsea at command. This is Andrés Villas-Boas change of getting revenge against the team that sacked him last season. Great Dane Football Blog takes a look at five managers who did just that.




5. Glenn Roeder against West Ham United

Roeder was assigned as manager for West Ham United in 2001. The appointment was not welcomed well by the fans, and Roeder had his back against the wall from the start, but managed to guide the team to a seventh in his first season.

However, the season after West Ham was struggling and was relegated. Some of the greatest profiles left the club as a result of the relegation, and Roeder was sacked in August 2003 following a defeat to Rotherham United.

In 2006 he was assigned manager for Newcastle United and here he met his former club in the 06/07 season. The manager got his revenge by a 2-0 win with goals from Duff and Martins.

4. Sam Allardyce against Newcastle United

Sam Allardyce to over in Newcastle after Glen Roeder in 2007 and started by axing six of the players. However, the manager also build up a promising squad with names as Mark Viduka, Joey Barton and José Enrique.

Even though, the squad seemed to be great the team only managed to get one point from six possible against Wigan and Derby, the fans started protesting against Big Sam.

On the 9 January 2008, Sam Allardyce left the club by mutual agreement and sooner signed with Blackburn Rovers. The first meeting with his former club ended in a 3-0 win to Rovers by two goals from Roberts and one from McCarthy.

3. Kenny Dalglish against Newcastle United

Kenny Dalglish was appointed as manager for Newcastle United in 1997 and guided the club from a fourth position to a runner-up spot qualifying for the Champions League. However, during the summer Dalglish started selling profiles as Les Ferdinand and Lee Clark, replacing them with elder players as Ian Rush and Stuart Pearce.

The 1997-1998 season only gave a 13th position in the league and Dalglish was sacked after two draws in the opening matches in the 1998-1999 season.

After a spell in Celtic, Dalglish returned to England and Liverpool. Here, he got his revenge in the 2010/2011 season with a 3-0 win. The goals were scored by Rodríguez, Kuyt and Suárez.

2. Roy Hodgson against Liverpool FC

Hodgson was appointed as manager for Liverpool on a 3 year contract in 2010. From the start, the fans had a doubt in Hodgson's experience with teams as Liverpool and after a couple of disappointing results, they started protesting.

When Kenny Dalglish became available as a new manager, the pressure came on to Hodgson as the fans wanted a new manager. Therefore, Roy Hodgson decided to leave the club by mutual agreement. Instead, he signed with West Bromwich Albion who won 2-1 in their first meeting against Liverpool.

1. Joe Royle against Everton

Royle was apponited as manager for Everton in 1994 and won the FA Cup in his first season. However, from that point the form just went down and on the transfer deadline in 1997 Royle resigned after he was not allowed to sign two new players.

Nearly a year after he took on the job as manager for Manchester City. Here he met Everton in the 00/01 season sending them home with a 5-0 defeat. The goals were scored by Wanchope, Howey, Goater, Dickov and Naysmith.
